Donald Trump extended sanctions against Russia for another year
US President Donald Trump has extended the sanctions imposed on Russia for another year due to Russia's annexation of Crimea and the recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. This was announced in materials from the US Federal Register.

Trump made the decision to continue the sanctions imposed by the US in various years - 2014, 2018, and 2022. The document states that these restrictions "must remain in effect after March 6, 2025".

— The actions and policies noted in these orders continue to pose a serious and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States, — the document states.

On February 25, Trump stated that the sanctions against Russia are not currently a topic for negotiation, but that he would "consider this issue in the future." In a conversation with journalists on February 26, he mentioned that he is only ready to lift the sanctions against Russia after the conclusion of the Russia-Ukraine war.

It should be noted that on February 24, the European Union agreed on a new package of sanctions against Russia. According to it, restrictions were imposed on aluminum imports, 13 banks were disconnected from the SWIFT system, and sanctions were applied to over 70 vessels related to the "shadow fleet".
