On the evening of February 28, shortly after unsuccessful negotiations with White House leader Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave an interview to American Fox News. During the conversation with the journalist, he expressed his desire to maintain partnership relations with the United States and stated that he was ready to sign a contract regarding natural resources, but this must be the first step towards security guarantees for Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky: "We do not want to fight"

“No one wants the war to end more than Ukrainians,” Zelensky said. However, he continued, the Ukrainian people want a fair and lasting peace, which cannot be achieved without security guarantees from the United States. Otherwise, Ukrainians will fear that "Putin will return tomorrow," as the Ukrainian leader emphasized that the Russian president has violated agreements multiple times.

Zelensky stated that his conflict with Trump was "bad for both sides," but he does not think he has done anything wrong and does not need to apologize. When asked if he is ready to return to the White House now to continue negotiations, the Ukrainian president replied: "No."

During the studio conversation, a video was shown reflecting Donald Trump's statement about Zelensky after their meeting at the White House: "He wants to continue fighting, to continue struggling."

“We do not want to fight,” the Ukrainian president commented on the video. “I respect our citizens, our soldiers. That is why I cannot return until I have clear information about when and what guarantees Ukraine will receive.”
