Muruntau remains in first place in the world in terms of gold reserves
International media has published notable articles about Uzbekistan's underground wealth. In particular, articles about the Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NMMC) and its famous Muruntau mine were published by Egypt's "Akhbarna" and "Misr Al-An" news agencies, as well as on the Mining.com portal.

The largest gold reserve in the world is in Uzbekistan

The articles emphasize that the Muruntau mine has the largest gold reserve in the world. It is estimated that there are 4,500 tons of gold reserves here, which places it in first place globally.

In 2024, Muruntau ranked second in the world for gold production — during the year, 2 million 676 thousand 2 ounces of gold were extracted here.

A globally recognized discovery

The significance of the Muruntau mine is immense not only for the economy but also for the field of geology. According to international mining expert and director of the second hydrometallurgy plant, Jasur Abdullayev, one of the largest geological discoveries of the second half of the 20th century is related to this mine.

“This achievement was solidified with the construction and commissioning of the second hydrometallurgy plant. Today, this plant is among the largest gold-producing enterprises in the world,” emphasizes the expert.

Integral industrial cluster — a new economic environment

The material notes that the activities of NMMC encompass not only the mine but also the entire industrial cluster. It includes the Muruntau mine, modern hydrometallurgy plants, water facilities stretching from the Amudarya to Zarafshan, and an industrial city.

This project is not only of strategic importance but has also become one of the pillars of Uzbekistan's economy. Currently, the Muruntau mine has reached a depth of 675 meters, with an area exceeding 5 kilometers. Since the start of operations, 2 billion cubic meters of ore have been extracted, and a project to expand to a depth of 1,000 meters is currently underway.

Heavy mining equipment production has started in Uzbekistan

Another important development is that for the first time in Uzbekistan, the production of heavy mining equipment has been initiated. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Navoi Machine Engineering Plant and the Zarafshan Repair and Maintenance Plant.

This step will play a significant role in strengthening Uzbekistan's position in the global mining equipment industry and will contribute to enhancing local production capacity.

The Muruntau mine is becoming one of the heart points of not only Uzbekistan but also the entire world in the fields of geology and mining. Due to its gold reserves, modern production infrastructure, and strategic plans, this project is one of the key resources ensuring the economic future of the country.
