The Moscow "Spartak" team set a new club anti-record for shots in a match during a special game of the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Detailed information on this was provided by Opta Sports. In the second round match held on Saturday, "Spartak" managed to take only three shots against the Kaliningrad team "Baltika".
Opta's statistics, which began in 2009, show that during these 16 years, the "red-whites" have played 495 matches in the elite division of the Russian championship, but never before had they taken so few shots. The previous anti-record for "Spartak" was four shots, a figure that has been repeated four times since 2009.
They achieved such results in matches against St. Petersburg's "Zenit" in 2012 and 2020, against Moscow's "Dinamo" in 2014, and against "Rubin" in 2011. Most importantly, in the second half of the match, "Spartak" did not manage to take any shots at the opponent's goal at all.
This is the first time this has happened since Opta began keeping statistics. Additional information about "Spartak's" failure is available in our commentary.
