Vyacheslav Koloskov, the honorary president of the Russian Football Union, expressed his views on the proposal to strengthen the limit on the number of legionnaires in Russian football in an interview with the publication "Euro-Futbol.Ru". This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Koloskov emphasized that it is not correct to implement the limit on legionnaires all at once. He stated that this process should be carried out gradually.
According to him, there is no negative aspect to strengthening the limit, but this issue needs to be approached consciously and thoroughly. For reference, there is a limit set for foreign players in the Russian Premier League.
According to the current regulations, each team can have eight foreign players on the field at the same time. The number of legionnaires on the team roster should not exceed thirteen.
These restrictions were introduced to ensure the development of local players and to enhance the competitiveness of football in the country. Experts believe that limiting the number of legionnaires will expand opportunities for local players.
At the same time, a sharp increase in the limit should not negatively affect the quality of the teams' performance. Therefore, a well-thought-out and gradual approach in this regard is of great importance.
