"Ural" football club president Grigoriy Ivanov expressed his opinion on the restrictions set for foreign football players in Russia. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
It is reported that starting from the next season, the limit for legionnaires in the Russian Premier League is expected to be further tightened. According to Ivanov, he has always been an advocate of restrictions, as he considers the movement of local players on the field to be important.
At the same time, he reminded that some of the greatest achievements of Russian football occurred during times when there were no restrictions. Ivanov emphasized that during the years when Arshavin, Kerjakov, and other famous players played, the Russian national team achieved good results in the European Championship and won the UEFA Cup.
Ivanov also stated that a specific form of restriction for legionnaires should be chosen in Russian football and tested for at least five or seven years. In his opinion, changing the restrictions every two years is not correct and negatively affects the development of football.
Currently, "Ural" club is participating in the Pari League, which is considered the second-tier football league in Russia. Ivanov's views remain one of the relevant topics in discussions within the football sphere.
He stated that he supports making a clear and long-term decision regarding the issue of legionnaires.
