Famous sports commentator Gennady Orlov expressed his opinion on the issue of tightening restrictions on the number of legionnaires in Russian football clubs. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to the plans developed by the Ministry of Sports, these changes are expected to be implemented starting from the next season. Orlov emphasized that such important decisions should not only be made in the form of orders from above but should also be based on extensive discussions involving specialists.
He stated that it is necessary to gather all coaches and listen to their opinions and thoughts. Orlov noted that the most accurate decision can be reached through open and reasoned discussions.
Additionally, the commentator pointed out that foreign players do not always match the level of the local championship. He stated the need to reconsider the quality requirements for legionnaires, ideally, foreign players should be at the level of national teams.
Currently, football clubs can register 13 legionnaires for the season, of which 8 can be on the field at the same time. According to the new regulations, these numbers may be reduced to 10 and 5, respectively.
These changes are expected to enhance the opportunities for local players and improve the quality of the championship.
