The coach of the Russian national team goalkeepers, Vitaliy Kafanov, shared his thoughts on the invitation of experienced goalkeeper Aleksandr Dovbnya to the «Spartak» team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, there are currently two strong goalkeepers in the «Spartak» squad. They are Aleksandr Maksimenko and Ilya Pomazun.
Kafanov stated that if, for some reason, one of these two players is unavailable, the third goalkeeper will be brought into the game. In such a situation, the question arises of whether to trust a young goalkeeper or choose an experienced player.
The leadership of «Spartak» prioritized experience, and this was the right decision, says Kafanov. For reference, Aleksandr Dovbnya signed a contract with «Spartak» last summer.
Despite being 38 years old, he played in one match for the team and maintained the integrity of his goal. The club's management has placed their trust in the experienced player.
This decision serves to strengthen the team’s goalkeeping lineup. Experienced goalkeepers are considered a reliable backup for the coach.
