Former England national team striker and ex-manager of Plymouth, Wayne Rooney has received an offer to continue his coaching career at a Northern National League club. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

According to The Sun, the 39-year-old specialist is being considered as a candidate for the head coach position of Macclesfield. The current coach, Robert Sevidge, is expected to leave the club soon for a new position in a higher division.

For this reason, the Macclesfield management sees Rooney's candidacy as a primary option. After his unsuccessful stint at Plymouth, he left the team at the bottom of the Championship in December 2024. Since then, Wayne Rooney has not worked at any club.

During this time, he has been active as a commentator and football expert and has not hidden his desire to return to coaching. Rooney is waiting for his next step in coaching, and this new opportunity could be a good chance for him to continue his career.
