Carbonated soft drinks, which are a favorite beverage for many, can pose significant risks to the body. This was reported by the famous Russian dietitian Elena Solomatina, according to the publication "Moscow 24".
She emphasized that sweet carbonated drinks contain orthophosphoric acid, which can leach calcium from the body. This can lead to the brittleness of bones. This condition is particularly dangerous for elderly individuals and growing children.
Additionally, the expert mentioned that the high sugar content in carbonated water can negatively affect the nervous system. In such cases, a person may experience hyperglycemia – feelings of irritability, fatigue, and anxiety. As a result, the brain starts to demand more sugar.
“When the body cannot fully utilize the energy provided by sugar, this energy turns into fat. Cells begin to refuse excess sugar, leading to an increase in blood sugar levels. This damages the inner walls of blood vessels, and in the damaged areas, harmful cholesterol accumulates, causing atherosclerosis and blood clots,” says Solomatina.
She noted that regular consumption of carbonated drinks negatively affects the intestinal microflora – the microbiome, weakens the body's natural defense system, and lowers immunity.
The expert recommends replacing carbonated soft drinks with clean drinking water to prevent such health risks. Special attention should be given to water in the daily diet of children and the elderly.
