Vladislav Vlasyuk: Sanctions imposed on Russia may be lifted if they ensure Ukraine's security
Vladislav Vlasyuk, the representative of the Ukrainian president for sanctions, spoke about the possibility of lifting Western sanctions imposed on Russia in an interview with Politico. According to Vlasyuk, if the sanctions help ensure Ukraine's security, they may be lifted. He stated that the return of foreign businesses to the Russian market is "a matter of time," but this should only happen based on certain conditions.

Purpose of the sanctions

Vlasyuk stated that the main purpose of the sanctions is to "urge Russia to stop its aggression" and "force it to conclude a strong peace agreement." In his opinion, sanctions are not just punitive; their aim is directed at changing Russia's aggressive behavior.

At the same time, Ukrainian officials emphasize that it is still too early to talk about lifting the sanctions. According to Vlasyuk, Russia must first demonstrate changes and take significant steps before discussions about lifting the sanctions can take place. He also noted that Russian representatives would attempt to clarify the possibility of lifting the restrictions.

Agreements and international conditions

Discussions about lifting the sanctions are linked to negotiations regarding a peace agreement with Russia. The US has proposed a 30-day ceasefire to facilitate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia, and the Ukrainian government has supported this proposal. Although Vladimir Putin has supported this initiative, he mentioned that there are "nuances" and issues that require discussion.

Trump's proposals to ease sanctions

According to Western media, US President Donald Trump's advisors are working on options to ease sanctions against Russia. The main condition for easing the restrictions is Moscow's agreement to a peace deal with Kyiv. If this proposal is rejected, Trump threatened Russia with "broad sanctions."

Zelensky's response

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky assessed Russia's reaction as "manipulation" and preparation for rejection. At the same time, he called for the imposition of new sanctions against Russia. Therefore, Ukraine feels the need for new reliable mechanisms to protect itself and ensure its security.

Agreements on achieving peace between Ukraine and Russia could still turn into a step towards victory, but in this process, sanctions and their lifting play a crucial role. Depending on negotiations with Russia and the conditions of the peace agreement, Western sanctions may change, but achieving satisfactory results for both sides requires a constructive approach from both parties.
