Aleksandr Lukashenko was elected president of Belarus for the seventh time
Aleksandr Lukashenko officially took office as the president of Belarus on March 25. During the inauguration ceremony, he took an oath and received the presidential certificate from the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Igor Karpenko.

“The ceremony was opened by the chairman of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, who announced that, according to the will of the Belarusian people, as a result of free and democratic elections, Aleksandr Lukashenko was elected as the president of the country,” the Belta agency reported.

It was noted that Lukashenko placed his hand on the Constitution and took the oath in Belarusian. After that, the state anthem was played. He signed the act confirming the acceptance of the presidential oath and received the presidential certificate from the CEC chairman.

This is Lukashenko's seventh term in the presidency. Earlier, the CEC had confirmed the results of the presidential elections held in January. In that election, Lukashenko collected a record number of votes from voters — 86.82 percent. In the 2020 elections, Aleksandr Lukashenko received 80.1 percent, in 2015 — 83.47 percent, in 2010 — 79.65 percent, in 2006 — 83 percent, in 2001 — 75.65 percent, and in 1994 — 80.34 percent of the votes.
