A citizen from Almaty who won in court with the help of ChatGPT
Kenjebek Ismoilov, a resident of Almaty, Kazakhstan, won a court case with the help of artificial intelligence. Instead of hiring a lawyer, he used the ChatGPT neural network to fight against a fine and ultimately won the case.

The essence of the matter

The incident occurred in December 2023. Kenjebek Ismoilov was fined 5,800 tenge (approximately 149,000 soums) for violating traffic rules. He received the fine for using the public transport lane to bypass a truck that was stopped at an intersection.

However, Ismoilov considered this decision unfair and initially approached the internal affairs department. After his complaint was rejected there, he decided to take the case to court.

Artificial intelligence – a new lawyer?

ChatGPT assisted the citizen in preparing the necessary application to appeal to the court. During the court proceedings, the neural network helped him prepare responses to the judge's questions in real time.

The court made a decision in 10 minutes, canceling the fine imposed on Ismoilov. This could be one of the first court cases won with the help of artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan.

"This was a civic duty"

Kenjebek Ismoilov emphasized that his goal in filing the complaint was not monetary:

"This was a principled issue for me. I wanted the employees to take their work seriously next time. During the court proceedings, they behaved rudely and unprofessionally. That’s why I took this matter to the end. It was my civic duty."

Now, Ismoilov plans to approach the police department to seek compensation for moral damages.

Reactions from lawyers and the public

This incident sparked heated discussions among lawyers and internet users. Some experts emphasize that artificial intelligence could lead to significant changes in the legal field in the future, while others argue that one should not overly rely on such systems.

Nevertheless, this incident demonstrated that the possibilities of using artificial intelligence are expanding and that it can even be an effective assistant in court proceedings.
