In Niger State, located in the northwest of Nigeria, armed individuals attacked a boarding school and kidnapped more than 300 students and 12 teachers. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Associated Press released the information based on data from the Christian Association of Nigeria regarding this incident. It was reported that the event occurred on Friday.
According to the organization, the armed group stormed the school and forcibly took the students and teachers away. The exact details of the attack have not yet been disclosed, but a total of 303 children and 12 school staff members have been reported missing.
Following the incident, the Niger State government decided to temporarily close all schools to ensure security. According to the governor, security forces are taking necessary measures to rescue the captives.
This event is recorded as the largest kidnapping incident in Nigeria since 2014, when Boko Haram militants abducted 276 schoolgirls in the town of Chibok. Additionally, regional authorities acknowledge that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to control due to the activity of armed groups in rural areas.
It is also noteworthy that this incident coincides with a period of strained relations between the United States and Nigeria. This tension is related to a statement by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the genocide of Christians in Nigeria.
