Maria Corina Machado arrived in Norway after a complex surgery
Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado left the country and arrived in Oslo, Norway on Thursday. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This escape was carried out with the help of a secret operation involving US representatives and some members of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's regime. According to reports from Bloomberg, The Guardian, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, 58-year-old Machado began her journey on Tuesday.
She chose a dangerous route considered one of the illegal migration paths. Machado used a wig and makeup to secretly leave Caracas.
She traveled for ten hours and reached a fishing village in the north of the country. From the village, Machado was taken by sea to the island of Curaçao.
Later, she flew by private jet to Bangor, Maine, USA, and from there proceeded to Norway. The distance from Caracas to Oslo was approximately 8,850 kilometers, involving a sea journey and several flights.
This complex escape operation was carried out with the help of dozens of people. They created secret conditions for Machado and assisted her in leaving Venezuela.
It is known that Machado had been hiding in the underground movement since 2024. Early Thursday morning, she appeared on the balcony of the Grand Hotel in central Oslo.
She was welcomed with applause by her supporters. Machado spoke by phone with the head of the Nobel Committee and expressed gratitude to all those who risked their lives during the escape process.
