Former leader of Karakalpakstan Qallibek Kamolov has passed away

Former leader of Karakalpakstan Qallibek Kamolov has passed away. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information, Qallibek Kamolov was born on March 18, 1926. He graduated from the Karakalpakstan Teachers' Institute in 1947.
Before finishing his studies, he worked as a teacher and later started working in the Komsomol system. Throughout his career, Qallibek Kamolov held various responsible positions.
He served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Karakalpak ASSR, Chairman of the Nukus City Executive Committee, Minister of Communal Services, as well as Minister of Automobile Transport and Highways of the republic. From 1958 to 1959, he was the Secretary of the Karakalpakstan Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan, and from 1959 to 1963, he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Karakalpak ASSR.
From 1963 to 1984, he worked as the First Secretary of the Karakalpakstan Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan. Between 1984 and 1986, Qallibek Kamolov served as the Consul General of the Soviet Union in Constanța, Romania.
In 1987, he was arrested in connection with the "cotton case." At the end of 1989, he was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment and was stripped of the title Hero of Socialist Labor and other state awards.
Later, along with other convicted individuals, he was also pardoned.
