It has been proposed to abolish pensions for migrants in Russia

A proposal has been made to abolish the assignment of social pensions for old age to migrants in Russia, as reported by Nova24.uz citing RIA Novosti.

According to the information, this initiative was promoted by deputies of the LDPR party, particularly under the leadership of party leader Leonid Slutsky. The draft law suggests stopping social pensions and additional payments for foreign citizens.

According to current legislation, foreigners who have permanent residency in Russia and have lived there for at least 15 years, holding a residence permit, are entitled to pensions upon reaching the age of 70 for men and 65 for women. Additionally, there are federal and regional supplementary payments available.

Deputies consider Russia an attractive country for many foreigners precisely because of the opportunity to receive pensions. At the same time, the average assigned pension constitutes only 28 percent of the average monthly salary in Russia, indicating an extremely low level of pensions.

The authors of the project view this measure as a step to protect the pension system from unjustified social obligations, reduce the budget burden, and restore confidence in the principle that “Pension is a result of participation in state life, not just mere existence.”
