Individuals using Uzbekistan SIM cards are being identified in Turkmenistan

In the border regions of Turkmenistan with Uzbekistan, large-scale inspection activities have been initiated by local law enforcement agencies. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During these raids, efforts are underway to identify citizens using SIM cards from Uzbek mobile operators. According to the information received, such measures are being carried out in more than sixty settlements in the Turkmenabat region.
In particular, following inspections in the village of Diovar, reports are spreading that several households were found in possession of communication devices and SIM cards belonging to a foreign state. Various measures are being taken regarding the violations identified during the inspections.
While some citizens have received only warnings, in other cases, strict warnings have been issued that individuals using foreign mobile communication services may face substantial fines or even arrest. Official authorities regard the use of foreign communication services as a threat to national security.
This is contributing to the further intensification of control measures. Representatives of the population residing in the border areas state that they are forced to use the services of Uzbek telecommunications operators.
According to them, the quality of internet in local networks is very poor, or in some border areas, there is no network at all. At the same time, it is emphasized that the internet speed and service quality provided by Uzbek operators are several times higher than local capabilities.
Therefore, individuals crossing into the foreign state bring back SIM cards and internet distribution devices from there and engage in providing services to other citizens as well. The intensification of these raids is presumed to be linked to the widespread dissemination online of reports about a tragic incident that recently occurred in the Turkmenabat region.
According to some information, this negative information may have been spread by users who accessed the internet via foreign state mobile operators. Currently, law enforcement agencies lack specialized technical equipment capable of remotely detecting SIM cards, so inspections are primarily conducted through door-to-door visits and direct on-site monitoring.
The situation in the border areas remains serious.
