"AvtoVAZ" will produce 150 thousand of these new crossovers per year

Russian automaker AvtoVAZ has announced its promising plans for the new Lada Azimut crossover, according to Zamin.uz.
The manufacturer is working on introducing a more technically advanced and higher-powered version of this model. This news is important not only for the Russian domestic market but also for countries like Uzbekistan, where interest in the Lada brand has traditionally been high.
Experts in the field are sharing their assessments regarding the project details and the crossover’s capabilities. According to Sergey Kutuzov, a representative of AvtoVAZ’s design center, a new version of the Lada Azimut model equipped with a 1.4-liter turbo engine will be launched in 2027.
This engine is expected to produce at least 150 horsepower. Notably, this power unit will operate in conjunction with a classic automatic transmission.
This will provide drivers with additional comfort during driving and significantly enhance the vehicle’s appeal. In the initial sales phase, the crossover will be offered only with naturally aspirated engines.
In the base configuration, a 1.6-liter, 16-valve engine producing 120 horsepower is planned for installation. This engine will be paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
This variant is primarily aimed at customers who prioritize fuel efficiency and technical simplicity. Additionally, a slightly more powerful version of the model equipped with a 1.8-liter engine producing 135 horsepower is anticipated.
This version will be equipped with a variator transmission. Thus, AvtoVAZ aims to offer customers a choice between a manual transmission, a variator, and, in the future, a full automatic transmission.
Currently, preparations for the serial production of the crossover at the plant in Tolyatti are underway. The factory has successfully launched a production line for plastic bumpers for the new model.
It is worth noting that special fixtures, the largest and heaviest of which weigh about 40 tons, are being used at the plant to install these components. The serial production of the Lada Azimut model is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026.
Deliveries to dealership centers will be completed by the end of the year. Initial sales are planned to launch in Moscow and Tolyatti, followed by distribution to export markets and other regions.
Although the exact price of the new crossover has not yet been announced, experts are sharing their estimates regarding its pricing strategy. The Lada Azimut is expected to compete in its segment with more affordable models from Chinese brands, particularly BYD and Chery.
The new turbo engine and automatic transmission will help enhance the brand’s technological influence and meet modern demands.
