A subway tunnel was constructed in record time in Bostanlik
In Bostanlik district, a unique infrastructure project unprecedented in Uzbekistan was implemented in the capital region. This was reported by Upl.uz. For the first time in the country's history, an underground pedestrian passage was constructed in a record short time. All construction work in the congested area of the “Bektamir-Chirchiq-G‘azalkent-Charvak” highway lasted only 48 hours. According to official information provided by the Road Committee, construction began at 6:00 AM on August 20. Exactly two days later, at 6:00 AM on August 22, traffic was fully restored and the main structure of the pedestrian passage was ready for use. Previously, such work usually took two to three months. However, this time the duration was significantly reduced due to the use of modular construction technology. Instead of traditional concrete pouring, precast reinforced concrete structures prepared at the factory were used. The work process was carefully planned, divided into several stages, and these were carried out simultaneously. Several specialized work teams operated in continuous shifts, ensuring uninterrupted progress. Currently, the main construction and installation work has been fully completed. In the coming days, final tasks such as lighting installation, fence mounting, and ramp construction will be carried out. According to the contractor organization, traffic will not be closed again during this phase and the work will be completed in a short time. This project is being conducted as an experiment. It aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of a new method on the strategically important road leading to the Charvak recreational area, which experiences high traffic loads during the summer season. Previous construction methods took several months and caused significant inconvenience for citizens and businesses, including long queues and slowed traffic. If the pilot project is deemed successful in terms of speed, quality, and economic efficiency, the Road Committee will consider expanding this technology. Implementing this method nationwide could accelerate and improve the modernization of road infrastructure, making the process faster, more efficient, and less disruptive to the transport system. The modular construction method, as applied in Tashkent region, is known worldwide as “ABC” (Accelerated Bridge Construction). In the USA, in 2017, this technology was used to completely renew a bridge on the I-84 highway in Connecticut over a weekend. This prevented months-long traffic stoppages typical of traditional methods.

Artificial intelligence has made a new breakthrough in regeneration
Artificial intelligence has made a new breakthrough in regeneration
New data in the scientific community indicates that a significant breakthrough may occur in the field of regenerative medicine. This was reported by Upl.uz. A special version of an artificial intelligence model developed by OpenAI has proposed modified forms of key proteins, which could create a new approach to combating the aging process. At the center of the research are four groups of proteins called Yamanaka factors. These proteins play a crucial role in the process of rejuvenating and regenerating cells in the human body. They are named after scientist Shinya Yamanaka, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery. These proteins enable the reprogramming of adult and specialized cells back to a pluripotent state, meaning they can be made similar to stem cells. However, the natural process is very slow and inefficient. The artificial intelligence model named GPT-4b micro analyzed complex protein structures and developed new variants of them. According to initial laboratory data, these modified proteins significantly accelerated the process of converting adult cells into young stem cells. One of the most important aspects is that the cell reprogramming process was accelerated by 50 times. Additionally, the new method helps reduce DNA damage, which is a major problem in regenerative medicine. The accumulation of DNA damage is one of the main factors of aging, and repairing it harmlessly is a pressing task for scientists. Representatives of the scientific community evaluate this innovation not only as a breakthrough against aging but also as the beginning of a new era in fighting a range of age-related serious diseases. In collaboration with the biotechnological startup Retro Biosciences, OpenAI aims to extend healthy human lifespan by ten years. At the same time, it should be noted that this data is still at an early stage and needs to be verified and confirmed by independent experts. If the results are confirmed, this could have a significant impact on the future of medicine. The discovery of Yamanaka factors in 2006 was a true revolution, proving that the fate of cells can be reversed. Previously, cell differentiation was considered unidirectional, and it was emphasized that adult cells, such as skin cells, could not revert to young stem cells.

Tajik woman sentenced to 8 years in Russia
Tajik woman sentenced to 8 years in Russia
The judicial authority of the Russian Federation has issued a verdict against a woman who is a citizen of Tajikistan, sentencing her to eight years of imprisonment. This was reported by Upl.uz. The reason for this severe punishment was an attempt to illegally bring into the country a plant called isirik or garmala. This information was provided by the Prosecutor General's Office of Tajikistan. The woman was detained at an airport in a Russian city. Following investigative actions, she was charged under two articles of the Russian Criminal Code. Specifically, she was accused of committing crimes under Part 2 of Article 228 ("Illegal actions related to the possession, transportation, preparation, and processing of narcotic drugs not intended for sale") and Part 3 of Article 229.1 ("Illegal transportation of plants containing narcotic substances across the Russian customs territory"). After the investigation was completed, the criminal case was sent to court, and the accused was sentenced to eight years of imprisonment, reported the Tajik oversight authority. The Prosecutor General's Office once again reminded citizens that bringing isirik into Russia is strictly prohibited. Russian legislation provides severe penalties for such actions. Possession or transportation of more than 10 units of garmala can result in a fine of up to one million rubles or a long-term, even life imprisonment sentence. Since February 2024, isirik has been officially included in the list of plants containing narcotic or psychotropic substances in Russia. This decision is explained by the presence of a substance called garmin in garmala. Experts describe garmin as a hallucinogen and a stimulant of the central nervous system. Even a single use can cause serious harm to a person's physical and mental health. Garmala (isirik) has been used for centuries in many cultures of Central Asia and the Near East in ceremonies and traditional medicine. Its smoke was used to cleanse rooms from evil spirits and diseases, and it was also used as an antiseptic.

No assistance was provided to the wild animal in Tashkent
No assistance was provided to the wild animal in Tashkent
An incident that occurred in the capital of Uzbekistan revealed the lack of necessary infrastructure to assist wild animals remaining in the urban environment. This was reported by Upl.uz. A jackal observed near the “Tarakanchik” cafe in Tashkent died because no institution was found to accept it. Reports about the presence of a wild animal in the city area came from caring citizens. Subsequently, volunteers from the non-governmental organization “Ekolog” arrived at the scene. They managed to catch the frightened and disoriented animal. Complex and unsuccessful efforts began to find a temporary shelter for the jackal. Volunteers contacted the Tashkent Zoo but received a refusal. The zoo cited the lack of conditions for quarantining and caring for the jackal as the reason. Further appeals to private shelters were also unsuccessful, as they are not designed to serve wild animals and lack the necessary facilities. Volunteers, unable to place the animal, found themselves in a difficult situation. They could not create conditions to keep the jackal for a long time, and as a result, the animal died. This case sparked broad discussion about the absence of a state center in Uzbekistan for the rehabilitation and care of wild animals. Existing laws and animal protection initiatives face challenges due to insufficient resources and infrastructure. The activities of volunteer organizations cannot fully replace the state system. Experts emphasize that until specialized centers providing qualified veterinary care to wild animals and aimed at returning them to their natural habitat are established, such tragic incidents will continue to occur. The jackal is considered one of the most adaptable wild animals living in the territory of Uzbekistan. It can live in environments ranging from semi-deserts to dense forests and anthropogenic landscapes such as urban outskirts. This leads to frequent interactions with humans. It is hoped that high-ranking officials will pay serious attention to the situation and hold those responsible for such tragedies accountable.

Yunusobod ambulance building repair is being voted on
Yunusobod ambulance building repair is being voted on
Employees of the 6th emergency medical aid unit located in the Yunusobod district of Tashkent city have taken the initiative to draw public attention to the condition of their workplace. This was reported by Upl.uz. Initially, information about this was shared on the "Yunusobodliklar 24" Telegram channel. Medical staff asked for help from the local residents. This building houses ambulance brigades, and according to the employees, its condition is unsatisfactory and very poor. This creates difficulties in providing services. To solve the problem, the department team decided to use the "Open Budget" portal. This platform is designed to support citizens' initiatives. A proposal to completely reconstruct the building was posted on the site. Now its future depends on the results of public voting. Medical staff are urging citizens to vote for the initiative. If the project gathers enough votes and wins, funds will be allocated by the government for the capital repair and modernization of the building. This will compel the relevant authorities to include the repair works in their financing plans. As a result, the working conditions of the ambulance service in one of the capital's major districts will improve. The "Open Budget" portal is part of a large-scale reform being implemented in Uzbekistan to increase transparency in the budget process and involve citizens in local budget allocation. Winning projects on the site are directly financed, bypassing many bureaucratic stages.

Drug Reducing Autism Symptoms Passed Testing
Drug Reducing Autism Symptoms Passed Testing
Scientists at Stanford University School of Medicine have announced a significant breakthrough in studying autism spectrum disorders. This was reported by Upl.uz. In previous clinical studies conducted on mice, researchers identified the brain region associated with autism symptoms and were able to eliminate these symptoms using an experimental drug. The results published in the scientific journal Science Advances indicate that the reticular nucleus of the thalamus — a region that plays a crucial role in filtering sensory information — is one of the main factors underlying autistic behavior. It was found that excessive activity of neurons in this area is directly linked to increased sensitivity to external stimuli, repetitive movements, and difficulties in social interactions. The central element of the study was a drug codenamed Z944. This compound is known as a selective antagonist of T-type calcium channels and has previously been used to treat epilepsy. A single dose of Z944 administered to mice with a genetic model of autism significantly reduced the overactivity in the thalamus. As a result of this intervention, almost complete disappearance of behaviors characteristic of autism was observed. The mice showed reduced hypersensitivity to light and sound, cessation of repetitive stereotypical movements, and restoration of social skills. One of the interesting aspects is that Z944 not only affected neural pathways related to autism but was also effective in reducing seizure activity. This confirms the clinical connection between autism and epilepsy. Approximately 30 percent of patients with autism experience seizures, indicating that the two conditions share common neurobiological mechanisms. Despite the successful results in animals, scientists recommend a cautious approach. During clinical trials in humans, the safety and efficacy of the drug must be established. If the trials are successful, a new class of drugs for treating autism and related neurological disorders could be developed. Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has a strict approval process for new drugs, government support for innovations in biotechnology may accelerate the process. This discovery represents an important step in understanding the complex mechanisms of brain function and expands therapeutic possibilities targeted at autism spectrum disorders. The reticular nucleus of the thalamus affected by Z944 is known as the "brain's gate" or "dispatcher," managing the information coming from sensory organs to the cerebral cortex and determining which signals are important while filtering out the rest.

Ozodbek Nazarbekov recommended entering the university
The Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, has once again come into the public spotlight. This was reported by Upl.uz. This time, a video clip circulated on social media in which he recommended young people to enroll in the private "Kokand State University." The video received serious attention and sparked criticism. The Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan promptly issued a statement regarding this situation. The official statement denied accusations related to advertising activities. It was emphasized that on April 17, Ozodbek Nazarbekov met with students and youth in the Andijan region. Following the meeting, at the students' request, the minister toured the university campus. As a result, a video clip was prepared calling on young people to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this higher education institution to receive quality education. The Ministry of Culture considers this video as socially beneficial information and stresses that it pertains to the field of science and education, not commercial purposes. Additionally, it was stated that no advertising contract was signed between the university and the minister. Since the video clip was posted on the official pages of the non-governmental educational institution, the ministry noted that it cannot be accused of violating the law. Interestingly, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred involving the Uzbek Minister of Culture. Previously, he was criticized for participating in an advertisement for a men's clothing store. At that time, the ministry explained that his visit to the store was part of a television project and was not intended to promote the brand. Nevertheless, the store administration was fined, which complicates the current situation further.

In Samarkand, a Spark driver did not give way to the ambulance
A video clip taken in the city of Samarkand is being widely discussed on social networks. This was reported by Upl.uz. It shows the inappropriate behavior of the driver of a Spark car. Despite sirens and flashing lights, as well as repeated verbal requests, this driver did not give way to the ambulance. As a result, in order to avoid losing valuable time, medical personnel were forced to enter the opposite lane, creating a dangerous situation on the road. Law enforcement agencies quickly identified the driver and held him accountable. An administrative report was drawn up against the driver under Article 128-5 of the Administrative Liability Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. This article prohibits drivers from obstructing vehicles or causing emergencies, as well as entering the lane for oncoming traffic. The fine for violating this rule amounts to five base calculation units, which is two million sixty thousand soums. This incident once again raises the issue of road traffic culture and the irresponsibility of some drivers as a pressing matter. Every driver must immediately give way to emergency and special service vehicles when they are moving with flashing blue or red lights and audible signals. Violating this rule can threaten human life, and any delay may lead to tragic consequences. Therefore, strict adherence to traffic rules is a priority duty for all drivers.

The active population in Uzbekistan's labor market is decreasing
According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, nearly 60 percent of the country's population is not considered active participants in the labor market. This was reported by Upl.uz. This means that 22.5 million people are not engaged in the labor market, including school students, pensioners, and persons with disabilities. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, as of July 1, 2025, 14.6 million people are officially employed in the country, with the unemployment rate amounting to 800 thousand people. Among the population outside the labor market, it is significant that 12 million people are of working age. This indicates that approximately six out of every ten people in the country's population are not active in the labor market. While the population of Uzbekistan continues to grow, especially the share of young people is increasing. As experts emphasize, demographic growth may increase pressure on the labor market in the future. This, on one hand, creates great opportunities for economic growth, and on the other hand, poses the issue of creating new jobs as an urgent challenge for the government. According to analyses by the Central Bank, although the growth rate of the working-age population is relatively slow, the demand for labor is increasing significantly. This imbalance directly affects employment levels, wages, and the overall economic situation. For example, in 2022, the growth rate of the working-age population (15–64 years) was 0.8 percent, while in the first quarter of 2025, this indicator reached 1.4 percent, showing an acceleration in growth. Thus, effective measures need to be taken to address the problems arising in the labor market.

The introduction of a unified state exam is planned
The introduction of a unified state exam is planned in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Upl.uz. This system will combine the final exams for school graduates, entrance exams to higher education institutions, and subject tests for obtaining certificates. This initiative was proposed recently at a meeting held under the president. Currently, graduates are required to take several different exams, which causes them excessive burden and administrative difficulties. Unifying the exams into a single system will simplify the process, save time, and help reduce the financial expenses of families. The idea of introducing a unified exam system is not being discussed for the first time in Uzbekistan. In April 2020, a proposal was made to conduct a single test consisting of compulsory subjects and elective subjects for faculty admission. In July 2022, the issue of combining the final school certification with higher education entrance exams starting from the 2024/2025 academic year was raised again. These changes aim to create a more effective and fair assessment system in the education sector.
