The tradition of kneeling before matches in the English Premier League may be abolished. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to The Guardian, the league's management plans to consult with all team captains about this anti-racism gesture in the future. The reason for such a discussion is the decision made by the women's national team not to kneel before their match against Italy in the 2025 European Championship.
This decision was made in response to racist insults directed at defender Jess Carter. The team's head coach Sarina Wiegman emphasized that she does not consider this gesture to be sufficiently effective.
The Professional Footballers' Association supported the players' decision and stated the need to seek new methods in the fight against racism. In the 2024/2025 season, Premier League teams only knelt during the initial and final rounds, as well as in October and April, as part of the "No Room for Racism" campaign.
This tradition began to gain traction in 2020.
