Former CSKA defender Vladimir Ponomaryov explained why the Russian national team is not agreeing to hold a friendly match against the RPL legionnaires. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
It was recently announced that Russia will play against the Jordan national team at home in September. According to Ponomaryov, the reason the Russian national team does not want to play against legionnaires is due to fear of defeat.
He stated that currently the national team is considered weak and the options for squad selection are limited, as there are many foreign players in each club. Ponomaryov also mentioned that such a game would be interesting for fans, and the legionnaire players would try to showcase their skills and prove that their salaries in Russia are deserved.
Earlier, there were reports that the Russian national team might play against Uruguay, Argentina, or Chile in the fall. However, so far, the Russian Football Union has only confirmed the match against Jordan on September 4.
