It is expected that from the upcoming season, restrictions on the number of foreign players in the Russian Premier League will be tightened. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In this regard, Shamil Gazizov, the general director of the "Dinamo" club in Makhachkala, expressed his opinion. According to him, it is still too early to tighten restrictions on foreign players in Russia.
Gazizov stated that implementing such measures is not appropriate while the country's football is not participating in international competitions. He emphasized that only when Russian clubs begin to showcase their game in European arenas would it be right to tighten the restrictions on foreign players.
Gazizov also explained that the relatively soft restrictions on foreign players are due to the fact that no club has shown complete dominance in the Premier League in recent years. Currently, Russian Premier League clubs are allowed to register a maximum of 13 foreign players in a season.
Out of these, 8 can be on the field at the same time. It has been reported that in the near future, the "13+8" system may be replaced with a "10+5" system.
This means that the number of foreign players will decrease even further. Experts are discussing how these changes will affect the development of Russian football.
