The Russian national team played its last official match in November 2021. At the end of February 2022, UEFA and FIFA imposed sanctions on the Russian Football Federation.

Since then, the team led by Valery Karpin has only been playing friendly matches. Due to the unavailability of other national teams and the political situation, it has been difficult for the Russian national team to find opponents.
