Russian State Duma deputy and former famous boxer Nikolay Valuyev commented on reports about the possibility of tightening existing restrictions on the number of legionnaires in Russian football. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Previously, information circulated that the requirements regarding the number of legionnaires could be tightened. According to Valuyev, reducing the number of legionnaires might slightly diminish the spectacle of the game, but at the same time, it would increase the attractiveness of the game.
He also emphasized that more attention should be paid to local players instead of legionnaires. According to current rules, clubs in the Russian Premier League can register 13 legionnaires during the season.
At the same time, there is no restriction on having a maximum of eight legionnaires on the field at the same time. The 2025/2026 Russian Championship will start on July 18, and on that day, Moscow's "Dinamo" team will play against "Baltika" at home.
Currently, the issue of further tightening restrictions on the number of legionnaires in the Russian football league is being discussed. These changes are aimed at improving the quality of football and the development of national teams.
Additionally, opportunities for local players are expected to be expanded.
