In Uzbekistan, new state license plates will be introduced for heavy trucks to protect transport infrastructure and improve road traffic safety. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In recent years, the number of trucks has sharply increased, nearly tripling over the last fifteen years. This situation increases the pressure on roads, causing them to wear out faster and leading to a rise in road traffic accidents.
Starting from January 1, 2026, special state license plates will be introduced for freight vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 44 tons, as well as large dump trucks used in quarries. The new plates will feature white letters and numbers on a red background and will be presented in the "YUK" series.
On the left side of the plates, the regional code will be displayed, while the right side will show the national flag and the "UZ" symbol. According to experts, this system will allow road inspectors to quickly identify the heaviest transport vehicles.
At the same time, excessive road loading will be prevented, reducing their rapid wear. As traffic flow and congestion are regulated, the number of accidents on the roads will decrease and safety will improve.
Additionally, it is proposed to increase penalties for leaving trucks on the roadside at night. According to statistical data, in 2024 alone, 113 road traffic accidents occurred due to such cases, resulting in 47 fatalities.
The new system will not only ensure the safety of road infrastructure but also facilitate accurate accounting of heavy transport vehicles and their operators. This will further enhance transport control and safety levels.
