The number of applicants is at its lowest in the last 7 years: reasons and new trends
In 2025, another important and unique process took place in our country's higher education system — the number of registered applicants this year recorded the lowest figure in the last seven years. According to the State Testing Center, the total number of registered applicants this year was 732,411. This figure shows a significant decrease compared to the dynamics of recent years.

The preparation process for test exams for applicants is taking place in a much narrower scope compared to previous years. The reason is that the number of participants in the test will further decrease due to those who have not made payments. Thus, the opportunities and competitive environment for each applicant are also changing.

Distribution by language of instruction: Uzbek language remains a strong leader

This year, the number of applicants wishing to study in Uzbek language maintained absolute leadership — 644,027 young people registered to take the test in this language. Those taking the exam in Russian numbered 71,476, in Karakalpak 14,959, and in other languages 1,949. These figures indicate the multilingual educational environment in the country, the diversification of languages, and the changing trends in demand.

Interesting gender composition difference

Looking at the gender composition of applicants, this year the number of girls significantly exceeds that of boys: 386,112 females and 346,299 males registered. This is also seen as a sign of new modern social trends, the increasing activity of women in education, and the opening up of gender balance.

7-year statistics: Interesting figures and analysis

In the last 7 years, the number of applicants has varied in different years. For example:
- 2019 — 1,066,925
- 2020 — 1,484,085 (historical maximum)
- 2021 — 948,211
- 2022 — 1,214,232
- 2023 — 1,018,007
- 2024 — 894,279
- 2025 — 732,411 (lowest figure)

Behind these numbers are demographic changes, interest in studying abroad, demand for private and non-governmental educational institutions, as well as the increase in the amount of payment for test exams. At the same time, this year's decrease is also related to the choices of parents and youth in the post-pandemic phase, the dynamics of the job market for specialties and professions, and reforms in the education system.

Last chance for payment: The deadline is very important

The final deadline for applicants wishing to participate in the test is today, June 26, at 23:59. If the payment is not made, the applicant will lose the right to participate in the test. Therefore, this date is crucial for every young person and parent.

From the Zamin.uz editorial team:
Although the numbers for the 2025 admission are described as decreased, this year could go down in history as the beginning of competition, opportunities, and new strategic directions for applicants. We wish all young people good luck and success!
