Leonid Slutsky, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party in Russia, proposed canceling social pension payments to migrants. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He expressed this opinion in an interview with the “Gazeta.ru” portal. According to Slutsky, the complex social and economic situation in the country, including military actions, demographic crisis, and the pressure on the budget, makes every ruble important.
Therefore, pensions should only be granted to Russian citizens, he stated. According to statistical data, nearly 600,000 migrants arrived in Russia last year, which is a record figure for the past 30 years.
If Slutsky’s proposal is accepted, it could significantly reduce the pressure on the Russian budget and pension system. According to current legislation, migrants are entitled to social pensions in Russia if they have lived there for at least fifteen years and have reached pension age.
This proposal is being considered as part of measures aimed at improving the country’s economic situation.
