Former US President Donald Trump expressed his new views on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Trump, to end the war, the Donbass region should be divided, and a large part of it could remain under Russian control. On October 19, during a conversation with journalists aboard Air Force One, he emphasized that much of Donbass is effectively in Russia's hands and stated that the current borders should remain unchanged.
According to Trump, the Donbass territory is already divided, with approximately 78 percent controlled by Russia. He stressed that both sides should stop at the front line, start peace negotiations, and prevent new casualties.
Continuing the war will only lead to destruction and loss of life, said the former president. Additionally, Trump denied reports published in The Financial Times claiming that he asked Zelensky during a meeting to hand over the entire Donbass to Russia.
He said such statements are unfounded and exaggerated. During the conversation, Trump recalled Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promise to reduce purchases of Russian oil.
He emphasized that if this promise is not fulfilled, New Delhi will continue to pay high tariffs. Experts believe that Trump's proposal to divide Donbass could mark a new political phase in the conflict in Ukraine.
This idea may provoke various debates in Western countries. Thus, Trump's statement is seen as aimed at creating new diplomatic opportunities to stop the war and initiate peace negotiations.
