Japarov: Border issues were resolved through dialogue

Kyrgyzstan President Sadir Japarov provided detailed information about the resolution of the border issue with Tajikistan in the second part of the documentary film "President." This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He emphasized that the process was difficult, with conflicts and tough negotiations leading to a step-by-step solution. According to Japarov, after the bloody clashes that occurred at the border in April 2021, he went to Dushanbe and held a personal meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon.
Although the negotiations, which lasted about 10 hours, did not yield immediate results, both sides continued to take steps toward an agreement. The President acknowledged that at that time the Tajikistan army was stronger and began strengthening the Kyrgyzstan army.
In particular, modern drones were purchased from Turkey. During the next conflict in September 2022, it was noted that Kyrgyzstan began to gain air superiority.
Japarov specially highlighted the contribution of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in reaching an agreement with Tajikistan. Mirziyoyev’s proposal for Rahmon to sit at the negotiation table was a catalyst for resolving the dispute between the two countries.
As a result, the parties succeeded in resolving the border issue. Additionally, Japarov stated that after the border issue with Tajikistan was resolved, border problems with Uzbekistan were also settled.
He believes that resolving border issues peacefully in the region strengthens trust and promotes cooperation. Kyrgyzstan Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev also acknowledged Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s contribution to regional integration in Central Asia.
According to him, Mirziyoyev has always emphasized prioritizing peace and cooperation. It is known that the armed clashes on the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border in 2021 and 2022 resulted in many casualties.
In March 2025, Sadir Japarov and Emomali Rahmon signed an agreement in Bishkek to resolve border issues. Following this, a ceremony was held in Khujand to unveil the "Friendship" stele with the participation of the leaders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
In conclusion, resolving border issues in the region not by arms but through dialogue and political will ensures stability for the future. Most importantly, these agreements must effectively serve to strengthen peace and cooperation.
Only then will investors and tourists necessary for the region’s development come, and people will live in peace of mind.
