He was known by the name “Bishkek maniac.” This was reported by local information sources.
According to official information, Abdirov’s body was found in his cell on February 7 at 12:30 PM. Preliminary investigations indicate that he may have committed suicide.
Pre-investigation inquiry has been initiated regarding this incident. Abdirov was arrested in September 2025, accused of raping and killing 17-year-old Oysuluv Mukasheva.
During the investigation, he admitted to raping and killing several women. His crimes were mostly committed on the outskirts of the city and in mountainous areas.
According to information, Qumarbek Abdirov was sentenced to 12 years in 2016 for attempted murder, but later his sentence was reduced to 7 years, and he was released early in 2018. The murder of Oysuluv Mukasheva caused a major public outcry in Kyrgyzstan.
Following this incident, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadir Japarov proposed reinstating the death penalty for serious crimes. However, in December 2025, the Constitutional Court stated that this measure contradicts the Constitution and international obligations.
