A hot air balloon carrying tourists in Turkey has crashed: one person died, 31 people were injured
A tragic incident that occurred on June 15 in central Turkey has shaken the country and the international tourism community. A hot air balloon carrying tourists crashed near the village of Gozlukuyu in the Oqsaroy province. As a result of the incident, the pilot who was operating the balloon was killed, and 19 Indonesian and 12 Indian tourists sustained varying degrees of injuries.

It has been reported that strong winds suddenly changed direction, causing the balloon to crash. The pilot fell from the hot air balloon basket during landing and got caught in the ropes. As a result, he fell under the basket and died at the scene due to severe injuries.

The injured tourists were transported to nearby hospitals in ambulances. Turkish officials announced that an official investigation has been launched regarding the incident and that safety measures will be reviewed.

Additionally, according to Anadolu Agency, another hot air balloon lost balance and landed on the same day in the Ilhara Valley in the morning. The 12 Indian tourists on board were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

It is worth noting that a similar tragedy occurred in 2022 when two Spanish tourists were killed due to a hard landing of a balloon in Cappadocia. These incidents highlight the urgent need to seriously reconsider safety requirements for hot air balloon tourism.

In regions like Cappadocia and the Ilhara Valley in Turkey, hot air balloon tourism has already become a popular activity. Thousands of tourists who dream of soaring over natural beauties participate in this tourism activity every year. However, the increasing technical malfunctions and insufficient monitoring of weather factors in recent years have further intensified the demand for enhanced safety in this field.

Turkish authorities are currently conducting investigations. At the same time, new protocols and technical regulations are expected to be implemented to ensure the safety of tourists.
