Chevrolet has introduced the new Spark EUV
Chevrolet has presented its new compact crossover. However, the model was not entirely developed by Americans – it is actually the Chinese Baojun Yep Plus, released under the Chevrolet brand.
After a brief presentation and several teasers in Brazil, Chevrolet officially unveiled images of its new electric crossover. At the same time, it was confirmed that the model would carry the Spark name, which was previously used for a hatchback. For the South American market, it will be presented as the Chevrolet Spark EUV. Additionally, there is an "Activ" inscription on the rear of the vehicle, which likely indicates the trim level.
The Spark EUV is essentially a copy of the Baojun Yep Plus, produced in China through a collaboration between GM and SAIC. The model is only available in a five-door version, with no three-door variant planned.
In design, the Chevrolet Spark EUV largely replicates the Baojun Yep Plus, with the only difference being the logos and brand markings. The model features a square-shaped body, wide bumpers, LED headlights, vertical rear lights, and a side-opening trunk door. The dimensions of the Chinese version are: length 3996 mm, width 1760 mm, height 1726 mm, and wheelbase 2560 mm.
In the interior, the Spark EUV also mimics the design of the Baojun Yep Plus. The steering wheel features the Chevrolet logo, and the dashboard includes a separate digital instrument panel and multimedia screen. There is a floating armrest between the seats. In the Brazilian market, the model will be offered in a variant adapted to local requirements.
Technical specifications have not yet been officially announced, but the donor model Baojun Yep Plus is equipped with a front-wheel drive system and a 102 horsepower motor. The model has a 41.9 kWh battery, which, according to CLTC tests, can cover a distance of 401 km.
The full presentation of the new Chevrolet Spark EUV will take place in the coming days. The model will be launched for sale in Latin America as well as in Middle Eastern countries. Chevrolet has previously released Chinese models under its brand. For example, the Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Groove, and Chevrolet S10 Max are also essentially copies of Chinese models.
