European new car market grew moderately in February

Europe's new passenger car market showed moderate growth rates in February 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Across the countries of the European Union, the territories of the European Free Trade Association, and the United Kingdom, registration figures for new cars increased by 1.4%. Nevertheless, the overall results for the first two months of this year remain slightly lower.
This is due to weak indicators in January, with the totals for January and February showing a one percent decline compared to the same period last year. The electric vehicle segment serves as one of the main drivers of growth in the market.
In particular, in the EU, registration of fully electric-powered vehicles increased by almost twenty percent in February. This indicates stable consumer demand for battery models.
This trend means that despite various complex conditions in the overall market, the process of transitioning to electric vehicles is becoming increasingly accelerated. Germany remained Europe's largest sales market for new cars and once again confirmed its leadership position in the region's automotive industry.
Unexpected changes were also observed in the competition between manufacturer brands. For example, Skoda for the first time in its history rose to second place in sales volume.
At the same time, Chinese car manufacturers are also significantly expanding their presence in European markets, especially in the direction of electric vehicles. When analyzed by individual model, it can be seen that the Renault Clio retains its leadership.
This car was named Europe's most popular vehicle for the second consecutive time in February 2026. Its continued leadership shows that even as market conditions change, demand for compact and affordable models remains at a high level.
Such changes will directly affect the formation of the regional car market in the future.
