The Russian Ministry of Sports announced plans to tighten restrictions on foreign players starting from the next season. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Olga Smorodskaya, who previously served as the president of the "Lokomotiv" club, expressed her views on this issue. She emphasized that tightening the restrictions on foreign players is not the right approach.
Olga Smorodskaya stated that she has always been against restrictions. In her opinion, such limitations do not contribute to the development of local players.
Any restrictions will ultimately not lead to good results. She stressed that players need freedom for creativity and growth.
If a local player is stronger than a foreign player, the coach will still put his player on the field, said Smorodskaya. She also reminded that despite the current restrictions, there are enough Russian players in the "Lokomotiv" squad.
Currently, clubs in the Russian championship can register a maximum of 13 foreign players in a season. At the same time, no more than 8 foreign players can be on the field at the same time from one team.
Smorodskaya stated that instead of tightening the restrictions, she advocates creating conditions for the growth and competitiveness of players.
