Mostovoy: Qatar could be a worthy opponent for Russia

In recent years, the famous football player Alexander Mostovoy expressed his opinion that a friendly match could be held between the national teams of Russia and Qatar. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

It is known that under the conditions of sanctions, the Russian national team can only hold friendly matches. According to Mostovoy, among the existing opponents, the Qatar team is considered a worthy one.

He assessed this match as a contest against a team that will participate in the World Cup. Currently, due to limited options, playing against Qatar is a more convenient option for the Russian national team.

This is considered much more preferable than facing lesser-known teams like Borneo, Grenada, or Cuba. In June of this year, the Russian national team held two friendly matches: a draw (1:1) at home against Nigeria and a victory (4:1) away against Belarus.

The next gathering is scheduled for September. At the same time, the Russian Football Union has been under UEFA and FIFA sanctions for more than three years.

It is still unclear when these restrictions will be lifted or eased. Thus, friendly matches remain the only opportunity for the national team at the moment.
