New measures are being implemented in Uzbekistan to improve the system for combating corruption and protecting citizens who report such cases. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
At a meeting chaired by the President, important proposals to strengthen anti-corruption policies were discussed. According to official data, in 2024, 31 citizens reported cases of corruption.
Although the legislation provides for incentive cash rewards for such reports, in practice, only letters of appreciation have been given to those who reported. Surveys showed that nearly 30 percent of the population fear reporting such incidents.
Therefore, to provide additional protection for whistleblowers, it was proposed to issue them special orders. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the need to establish special project offices to reduce corruption risks in high-level bureaucratic and non-digitized sectors.
It was decided that the results of these structures' activities would be regularly disclosed to the public. It was also proposed to widely involve the public in monitoring investment programs and overseeing construction processes on-site.
To encourage citizens, it is planned to establish a special award titled “For Contribution to the Fight Against Corruption.” The issue of digitizing tax administration was also discussed at the meeting.
The President gave instructions to accelerate the full automation of VAT calculations and reduce errors caused by human factors. Such measures aim to enhance the effectiveness of the fight against corruption.
