Thailand is introducing a new tax for tourists

The Thai government announced that starting from the end of 2025, a new tax of 300 baht (8.8 USD) will be imposed on all foreign tourists visiting the country. This was stated by the country's Minister of Tourism and Sports, Soravong Tentxong.

According to the new regulation, the tax will be collected from all tourists arriving by air. Additionally, tourists entering by land or sea will also need to make this payment, but they will be allowed to enter the country multiple times after paying once.

According to the minister, the funds raised from the tax will be directed towards insuring the lives and health of tourists, which will enhance their safety in the country. He also emphasized that this new regulation is not expected to have a significant impact on tourist flows, as the amount collected is not large.

Tourism Sector Discontent

The Thai government had begun discussing the idea of imposing a tax on foreign tourists before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these plans were delayed due to the pandemic.
