Valery Karpin, head coach of Moscow's "Dinamo" football club and the Russian national team, expressed his opinion on the news about tightening the restrictions on legionnaire football players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
It has been noted that this initiative was proposed by the Russian Ministry of Sports. Valery Karpin emphasized that he had expressed his opinion on this matter back in 2008 and has nothing more to add.
According to him, he will remain in his previous position on this issue. Under the current regulations, each club cannot have more than 13 legionnaire football players in its squad, and at the same time, 8 foreign players can participate on the field.
The Ministry of Sports is proposing to change this regulation. According to the new proposal, there can be 10 legionnaires on the club roster, and at the same time, 5 foreign players can be on the field.
According to Mikhail Degtyaryov, head of the Ministry of Sports, a main decision has been made in this regard, and the new regulation will be implemented gradually, starting from the 2026/2027 season. The ministry also provided information that long-term contracts with foreign players will be taken into account and the interests of the clubs will be considered.
