Three investors—billionaire Jamie Dinan, Alexander Knaster, and Edward Eisler—have threatened to take legal action against club owner John Textor. This was reported by the Financial Times.
The reason for the conflict is said to be the deterioration of Lyon's financial situation and the club's relegation to Ligue 2. According to the investors, this situation contradicts the agreements reached when the club was purchased in 2022. Dinan and his partners are demanding that John Textor buy back their shares for $93 million within a week.
Textor confirmed that he received these claims but stated that they have no legal basis. According to the businessman, the current claims of the investors do not correspond to the profits that belong to them under the contract. According to information announced by the club in March, Lyon's net loss in the first half of its financial year amounted to 117 million euros.
The total debt, excluding future transfer revenues, is approximately 445 million euros. In 2022, John Textor spent about 900 million euros to acquire the Lyon club, which includes debts.
The financial situation and disputes are negatively affecting the relationships among investors within the club.
