Romantsev: Cherchesov should have been made the head coach of CSKA

Former head coach of Moscow "Spartak" Oleg Romantsev was surprised by the selection of Fabio Chelestini as the head coach of the CSKA team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

In his opinion, it would have been more appropriate to appoint Stanislav Cherchesov to the club. Romantsev noted that Cherchesov's break in his career is related to his waiting for offers from clubs.

This waiting has also been observed in Poland and Hungary. He expressed confidence that such offers might arise in the future.

Therefore, he emphasized that it is reasonable to be surprised that Chelestini, not Cherchesov, is managing CSKA. Chelestini took over from the previous coach Marko Nikoliich.

Nikoliich left for Greece's AEK team after leading the "army men" to bronze medals in the Russian championship and winning the Cup. Cherchesov's last job was coaching the Kazakhstan national team.

Under his leadership, the team suffered five defeats in the Nations League, collected only one point, and did not score a single goal. This is being evaluated as a difficult phase of his career.
