Famous local coach Alexander Grigoryan expressed his opinion on the proposal to reduce the number of foreign players in the Russian Premier League (RPL). This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to the Ministry of Sports' plan, the number of foreign players in clubs is set to be reduced from 14 to 10, and in the starting lineup, the number of legionnaires on the field will decrease from 8 to 5. Grigoryan considers this proposal reasonable.
According to him, having five foreign players is a good option. He also expressed surprise at where players like Batrakov and Kislyak came from.
If there were no restrictions at all, clubs would have spent large sums to attract more foreigners to play in European competitions. According to recent information, the Russian Football Union has supported the ministry's proposal but has indicated that it favors gradually tightening the restrictions.
This decision is expected to have a positive impact on the development of football in the country. Additionally, the reduction in the number of legionnaires will serve to increase opportunities for local players.
Therefore, implementing restrictions will help maintain balance in the football sector.
