
The death toll from the strong earthquake that occurred in the Cebu province of the Philippines has reached 72. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Earlier, it was reported that 69 people had died. Additionally, 294 people were reported to have sustained various degrees of injuries.
According to GMA News, the national council for disaster prevention and mitigation noted that more than 170,000 people were affected by the earthquake. Among them, approximately 20,000 people were forced to leave their homes.
According to local authorities, the strong tremors caused the collapse of some buildings. On Tuesday at 21:59 local time, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred.
Subsequently, more than 2,300 aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1 to 5 were recorded. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the earthquake occurred about 20 kilometers northeast of Bogo city, at a depth of 5 kilometers underground.
A state of emergency has been declared in Cebu province. The highest number of casualties occurred in the northern part of the province, including Bogo city with a population of nearly 90,000, as well as the municipalities of San Remigio and Medellin.
Necessary measures are currently being taken in response to the emergency situation.
