At least 72 people died and over 300 were injured as a result of this natural disaster. Many houses, churches, and roads were severely damaged.
More than 40,000 people were forced to leave their homes due to the earthquake. Most of the population is spending the night in temporary tents or outdoors.
Some are forced to use plastic bags to protect themselves from the rain. Rescuers continue to search for survivors among the rubble.
Meanwhile, shortages of food, drinking water, and fuel remain major problems. The military has also been involved in rescue and relief efforts.
