The retirement age in Denmark has been raised: now you will retire at 70!
The issue of an aging population is becoming increasingly serious among European countries. Some states are implementing various measures to combat this demographic problem. In particular, the Danish parliament has approved a new bill to gradually raise the retirement age. According to this, by 2040, the retirement age will be raised to 70.

Currently, Danish citizens have the right to retire at the age of 67. According to the new law, this age will be gradually increased starting from 2030. That is, in 2030 the retirement age will be set at 68, in 2035 at 69, and finally, in 2040 at 70. The main reason for these changes is related to the continuous increase in life expectancy in the country.

It was also reported that there were heated debates during the process of adopting this decision by the parliament. Specifically, during the voting process in the Folketing, 81 deputies supported this new system, while 21 opposed it. According to the opposing deputies, not everyone is capable of working effectively until the age of 70, as many citizens may not be able to endure such long-term labor physically or mentally.

Among those criticizing this law are trade unions as well. They emphasize that this decision will impose a burden on the majority of the population. Especially for representatives of sectors engaged in heavy physical labor, this retirement age could become a significant challenge that requires long-term work.

However, supporters of this reform emphasize that such a decision is necessary to ensure the future economic stability of the country. They argue that as the average lifespan of the population increases, there is no other solution but to raise the retirement age to maintain the financial balance of the pension system. Currently, life expectancy in Denmark is one of the highest in Europe, indicating that the population has the potential for long and healthy living.

The Danish government has described this reform as a necessary measure aimed at maintaining the well-being of the population. This is because it is essential to create a flexible system in response to the aging population for the rational distribution of the country's economic resources.

At the same time, the social aspects of this decision are also actively being discussed. For example, it is noted that raising the retirement age may lead to increased competition in the labor market for the younger generation. That is, the opportunity to create new jobs for young people may decrease, as older individuals will have to perform their duties for a longer period.

Economic experts assess this reform as a strategically important decision for the country. They emphasize that this decision is crucial for reducing pressure on the pension system, optimizing state budget expenditures, and effectively utilizing labor resources.

Additionally, the Danish government plans to consider additional measures to improve working conditions for older workers, enhance their qualifications, and create job opportunities within the framework of this reform.

Moreover, changes will also be made to the social insurance system. Special programs and financial support mechanisms will be developed for older workers. This could ensure their ability to work effectively for a longer period.

However, the effectiveness of these reforms will only become clear over time. Currently, there are various attitudes towards this decision among different segments of the population. While some consider it necessary for the future, others express that it is an unfair decision for older individuals.

Overall, the Danish parliament's decision to raise the retirement age to 70 could be one of the significant changes affecting all of Europe. This decision may serve as a unique example for other European countries as well. Other states will also be compelled to reconsider the financial aspects of their pension systems.

The Zamin.uz editorial team will continue to closely monitor such changes around the world. What do you think about raising the retirement age? Does this reform justify itself or create difficulties for the population? Share your thoughts with us!
