Melon is beneficial for health, caution is necessary
Melon is beneficial for health, caution is necessary
During the peak season of melons, this fruit is widely available in markets and stores across Uzbekistan. This was reported by Upl.uz. Health and nutrition specialists are calling for a deeper understanding of its benefits and potential risks. Melon is an integral part of the summer diet, being not only a sweet and refreshing product but also a beneficial natural product for health. Scientific research is considering melon as a functional food product. According to studies published in international journals, melon contains bioactive compounds such as lycopene and citrulline, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Melon is composed of 93% water, and its calorie content is very low — only 27-30 calories per 100 grams. The sugar content consists of fructose, glucose, and sucrose, which gives this fruit its sweet taste. The amounts of protein and fat are very low. The flesh of the melon is colorful, with red indicating lycopene, while yellow and dark yellow colors are related to beta-carotene. Regularly including melon in the diet helps prevent cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and certain types of cancer. The citrulline amino acid, which is important for heart health, converts to arginine in the body, which dilates blood vessels, improves circulation, and lowers blood pressure. This property makes melon especially beneficial for those suffering from hypertension. Additionally, lycopene is a powerful natural antioxidant that protects cells from harmful free radicals and helps reduce the risk of cancer. The substances in melon positively affect sugar and fat metabolism, help control blood sugar levels, and reduce fat accumulation. At the same time, consuming melon in moderation may increase insulin sensitivity in people with metabolic syndrome. Not only the flesh of the melon is beneficial, but also its seeds and skin. The seeds are a source of protein, unsaturated fatty acids, and magnesium. The skin is rich in fiber and has a high citrulline content. In some regions, the skin is dried and ground to be used as a food supplement. Health Ministry specialists recommend caution when consuming melon. People with diabetes, especially those with type 2 diabetes, should consume melon in moderation and with caution, as it contains rapidly digestible carbohydrates. Additionally, the fiber and certain types of carbohydrates in melon can cause gas and discomfort in those with gastrointestinal issues. The strong diuretic property of this fruit may put extra strain on the kidneys, so it is advisable for people with kidney disease to consult a doctor before consumption. There is also a problem with the excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers in melon cultivation. Such fruits have a bright green skin, while the flesh may be unusually red or purple, posing a risk of poisoning. Regional governors have instructed to strengthen quality control in markets. Experienced farmers advise paying attention to several signs to determine the ripeness and safety of melons. The skin should be firm and shiny, with a bright yellow spot where it was attached, and the skin holding the fruit should be dry and hard. The dryness of the stem and the clear, deep sound when tapping the fruit are also indicators of quality. A medium-sized quality melon typically weighs around 5-7 kilograms. Specialists do not recommend buying melons before mid-July, as

Power supply interruptions are increasing in Tashkent
Power supply interruptions are increasing in Tashkent
Social networks and special groups in Uzbekistan, particularly the “Potrebitel.uz” team, are noting a sharp increase in complaints about the instability of electricity supply among the capital's residents. This was reported by Upl.uz. Long outages and cases of expensive household appliances breaking down due to sharp voltage fluctuations have almost become a daily occurrence. An analysis of the situation shows that the city's energy infrastructure, mainly created in the last century, is operating at the limits of its capabilities. The existing transformer substations and cable networks do not meet the demands of a modern large city. The problem is exacerbating as urban construction accelerates. A large number of residential and commercial complexes are being built throughout Tashkent, which is putting additional pressure on outdated networks, often leading to their deterioration. Against this backdrop, experts and the public are raising the issue of imposing a temporary moratorium on new constructions. This measure aims to provide the necessary time for a deep modernization of the city's energy system and to expand capacities. The logic of the proposal is that the pace of urban development must be aligned with the capabilities of the infrastructure. Official comments from responsible agencies such as the capital's administration and the “Regional Electric Networks” joint-stock company are currently not uniform. While technical difficulties are acknowledged, they often emphasize the complexity of replacing equipment under conditions of long-term investments and dense urban construction. The speed of construction work remains in conflict with global experience. For example, in the USA, any major construction project goes through an agreement phase with energy companies regarding power adequacy. Often, the issuance of a construction permit is linked to the obligation to financially contribute to the expansion of networks. This practice helps to prevent systemic problems, such as those currently arising in Tashkent. Tashkent faces a strategic choice: continue the pace of construction, exacerbating the energy crisis and social tension, or halt permits for new facilities and adapt the infrastructure to the city's needs. Electricity losses are directly related to the load levels of the networks. When the nominal load is exceeded, losses increase not linearly but in a squared manner. This means, for example, that increasing the network load by 20 percent raises energy losses by 44 percent. As a result, wires and equipment overheat, accelerating their wear and increasing the risk of accidents.

Helped the woman of Uzbekistan return from Pakistan
Helped the woman of Uzbekistan return from Pakistan
The diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan in Islamabad carried out extensive measures to assist an Uzbek citizen facing serious life difficulties in Pakistan to return home. This was reported by Upl.uz. The "Dunyo" news agency confirmed this successful repatriation case. The incident developed when the woman personally approached the consular section of the embassy. In her application, she stated that she was in an extremely difficult social and material situation, lacking financial means to meet basic life needs and pay for housing. The situation was assessed as one requiring urgent intervention, and therefore the diplomatic mission staff established special monitoring over the case of the compatriot woman. Within the framework of consular-legal assistance, a certificate for her return to the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan was promptly issued. This special document certifies the individual and grants the right to enter the country once in case the passport is lost or rendered invalid. The financial issue related to purchasing an airline ticket was resolved through the cooperation of embassy staff and generous sponsors among compatriots. As a result, the woman was provided with a ticket for the Islamabad-Tashkent flight, and she arrived in the capital on time. This case is part of the systematic work being carried out by Uzbekistan's foreign policy agencies to protect the rights and interests of citizens abroad. Recently, another Uzbek woman, who was a victim of domestic violence in the Russian Federation and returned with her children, served as an example of effective intervention. Her husband had threatened her against returning home while engaging in illegal labor activities and had taken her passport. The return certificate issued to the woman is considered a temporary document. Its validity period usually does not exceed 30 days, and it must be submitted to the internal affairs authorities at the place of residence within three days after arriving in Uzbekistan. After that, the main passport is restored.

School grades are not counted in higher education admissions
The procedure for considering school grades during the admission process to higher education institutions in the Republic of Uzbekistan has been canceled. This was reported by Upl.uz. This was announced by Doctor of Legal Sciences Khushnudbek Khudoyberdiyev. He reported this change based on the decision of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, dated July 19. Previously, the procedure for considering students' academic performance over the last six years was approved by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on November 19, 2021. According to this procedure, starting from the 2022/2023 academic year, the average grades of graduates during the 11 years of compulsory education were to be included in the certificate, and these indicators were to be added to the exam scores for admission to higher education institutions. Khushnudbek Khudoyberdiyev emphasized that this practice could have allowed applicants to receive an additional 3, 4, or 5 points based on their average school grades. However, after the implementation of the procedure for considering school grades was postponed for two years in 2023, it was decided to completely abandon this practice. Thus, applicants will be admitted to higher education institutions solely based on the results of entrance exams, and school academic achievements will not be taken into account. This decision aims to ensure fairness and transparency in the education system.

Strict penalties have been introduced for illegal lasers
Strict penalties have been introduced for illegal lasers
The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlisi of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved a draft law imposing severe fines for the illegal import, production, storage, and use of portable laser beams in the second reading. This was reported by Upl.uz. This draft law was developed due to the increase in the illegal circulation of lasers within the country. Such actions pose a significant threat to the lives and health of citizens, the safety of aircraft, and public order. According to the new amendments to the Administrative Responsibility Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the following fines have been established depending on the type of violation and its public danger: for illegal use of laser beams, fines ranging from 15 to 25 basic calculation amounts, that is, from 6.1 to 10.3 million soums; for their production, preparation, and storage, fines ranging from 15 to 30 basic calculation amounts, that is, from 6.1 to 12.3 million soums; and for illegal import into the territory of Uzbekistan, fines ranging from 25 to 50 basic calculation amounts, that is, from 10.3 to 20.6 million soums. The adoption of this draft law indicates the seriousness of the issue of uncontrolled use of laser devices. In particular, high-powered portable lasers can cause irreversible damage to human eyes, distract the attention of aircraft pilots, and thus pose a threat to flight safety. Furthermore, there is a possibility that such devices may be used to disrupt public order or for criminal purposes. The introduction of large fines aims to create an effective mechanism to prevent these violations and reduce their recurrence. This, in turn, will help decrease incidents related to illegal laser circulation and enhance public safety in the country.

Fake decisions were exposed in Sharaf-Rashidov
The Jizzakh regional prosecutor's office has taken control of the preliminary investigation into the fact of the signing of a number of financial documents in the name of the Sharaff-Rashidov district governor. This was reported by Upl.uz. This case is related to Mahmud Kholbutayev, who was detained by law enforcement agencies on July 8. In the investigation center, there is a series of decisions formalized in the name of the district council of people's deputies, but these decisions were confirmed with the signature of Mahmud Kholbutayev after his actual detention. These documents were related to the distribution of a large amount of budget funds. Interestingly, two of the five disputed decisions were formalized exactly on July 8, the day Mahmud Kholbutayev was detained. The decision No. VII-10-94-3-46-K/25 confirmed the allocation of 42 million soums for the purchase of flags and landscaping works in connection with the Day of Remembrance and Respect. Additionally, it was decided to spend 70 million soums for the repair of the roofs of apartment buildings. On the same day, another decision, document No. VII-10-95-3-46-K/25, approved the allocation of 150 million soums for the repayment of debts for office equipment to strengthen the material and technical base of the government. On July 9, while Mahmud Kholbutayev was already under investigation, three more documents appeared. Decision No. VII-10-96-3-46-K/25 ordered the allocation of 100 million soums to the departments of family and women's affairs. In decision No. VII-10-97-3-46-K/25, 200 million soums were allocated for the construction of a mini-football field in the "Tokchilik" neighborhood, and 400 million soums for the repair of the culture department building in the "Qulpisar" neighborhood. The last document, decision No. VII-10-98-3-46-K/25, provided for the allocation of 255 million soums for the needs of the government apparatus. These funds were intended to be used for purposes similar to those outlined in the July 8 decision. The total amount of funds distributed based on these documents exceeded 1.2 billion soums. Currently, the Sharaff-Rashidov district prosecutor's office is thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the emergence of these decisions and is trying to identify who was involved in their formalization and signing. According to the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the powers of an official are automatically suspended after they are officially detained and charged. From that moment on, any document signed in their name is considered legally invalid. The preparation and use of such documents can be assessed as forgery and abuse of authority.

The number of cashiers in the Tashkent metro is decreasing
Recently, there have been reports on social media, particularly on the Telegram channel "Islam Kaparzo," about the forced dismissal of an employee who worked for 34 years in the Tashkent metro. This was reported by Upl.uz. In response to this situation, the Tashkent metro provided an official statement. According to the metro, the number of cashiers is gradually decreasing as part of the modernization and development of electronic payment systems. This situation is leading to the optimization of the workforce and the reduction of cashier operator positions. According to labor legislation, employees being laid off are given a two-month notice period and additional compensations are paid. Employees have the right to terminate their employment contract at their own request and receive all compensations. In a specific case, Svetlana Vladimirovna Vidrix was offered the above conditions at a working group meeting held on July 15, and she is currently continuing to work in a senior operator position. Additionally, considering that she has only six months left until her retirement, it was suggested by the trade union to consider options for transferring her to another suitable position within the metro system. The administration of the Tashkent metro emphasizes that the information provided on the "Islam Kaparzo" Telegram channel is one-sided and incomplete, stating that the spread of this incorrect information negatively affects the company's reputation and causes unfounded concerns and misunderstandings among employees. For this reason, Tashkent metro officials call on the authors and administrators of the Telegram channel to verify the information and refer to official comments. It is also reminded that there are provisions in the Administrative Responsibility Code and the Criminal Code for distributing false information.
