
On November 25, an extraordinary session of the People's Deputies Council of Samarkand region was held. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the session. The head of state expressed his pleasure at meeting with the regional community, highlighting Samarkand's rich history, achievements, and untapped potential.
According to the President, Samarkand is strengthening its position in world civilization as a region where ancient culture and modern development harmonize. In recent years, the region's tourism potential has significantly increased.
Specifically, the "Eternal City" complex was established, a new international airport was built, and modern hotels began operations. This year alone, more than 40 international events were held in the region, including the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, which was one of the major events.
As a result of investments amounting to 1 billion dollars in tourism and related sectors, the flow of tourists to Samarkand has increased sevenfold since 2016. Exports of tourism services reached 600 million dollars.
Following this, the region is also achieving significant growth in industry, agriculture, and service sectors. Over the past eight years, 12 billion dollars of investment have been attracted to the region, creating more than 600,000 permanent jobs.
The number of entrepreneurs has doubled, and the number of industrial enterprises has increased by 1.5 times. Urgut district has also become one of the leading areas in economic development.
Large projects in industry, agriculture, and services are being implemented here. Recently, a 55-kilometer-long railway line was launched in the district.
In the future, this network will be electrified, which will further improve the district's economy and the living conditions of the population. The President announced the construction of a modern city in the center of Urgut as part of the "New Uzbekistan" project.
A new eco-city will be built on an area of 90 hectares here. Additionally, the boundaries of Samarkand city will be expanded by adding 17,500 hectares of land from neighboring districts.
Multi-storey residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, shopping, and business centers will be constructed in the new districts. At the meeting, the President proposed the candidacy of Adiz Boboyev for the position of governor of Samarkand region.
As a result of the deputies' vote, he was approved as the regional governor. The new governor was assigned important tasks for the economic and social development of the region.
