Israel launched airstrikes on the Syrian capital: Netanyahu sent a serious signal to Damascus
Israeli armed forces carried out an attack on a site near the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, Damascus. This was announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz in a joint statement on May 2, informing the global community.

“This attack serves as a very clear signal to the Syrian regime. We will never allow military forces to be deployed south of Damascus or threats to the Druze community,” the official statement distributed by Reuters said.

According to reports, Israel has conducted airstrikes in Syria for the second time in recent days. These actions demonstrate that the Israeli government has deep distrust towards Syria's interim president Ahmad al-Shara, international news agencies emphasize.

In turn, the United States sharply condemned the violence and pressure against the Druze minority in Syria. U.S. State Department spokesperson Timmy Bruce stated on May 1: “We consider the recent violence against members of the Druze community in Syria and the dangerous rhetoric absolutely unacceptable.”

The U.S. official also called on the transitional government in Damascus to immediately cease hostilities, hold accountable those responsible for crimes, and ensure the safety of all Syrian citizens.

According to international political analysts, the escalation of the situation in Syria increases the likelihood of new conflicts in the region. Therefore, it is said that after this attack, the international community, including the United Nations, must take diplomatic measures to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
