Access to the sea is an important factor for a country's geographical location and economic success. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
However, many countries in the world lack this opportunity. According to data, currently there are 44 countries worldwide that do not have direct access to the sea.
Among them, Kosovo is specifically noted. Two of these countries, Uzbekistan and Liechtenstein, are surrounded by neighboring countries without a coastline.
Additionally, some countries, such as Laos, are very close to the sea, but their access routes to the coast are blocked by neighboring countries. Although Laos is only about 50 kilometers away from the South China Sea, ports in Vietnam block this route.
For some countries, rivers hold strategic importance. For example, landlocked countries like Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia have access to the Black Sea via the Danube River.
This river provides an important transport route for the economies of these countries. However, lacking a coastline does not always hinder economic development.
For instance, Luxembourg and Switzerland are considered among the richest countries in the world. Also, despite being a small country, Liechtenstein ranks first in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.
These data show that countries without access to the sea can also achieve economic success by making the right strategic decisions. These countries are capable of expanding their opportunities by developing the necessary infrastructure and strengthening international cooperation.
