Former “Zenit” football player Andrey Arshavin expressed his opinion about Stanislav Cherchesov being appointed as the head coach of the St. Petersburg “Akhmat” club. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Arshavin emphasized that the experienced specialist could stabilize the team's performance and achieve good results due to the quality of the squad. According to him, “Akhmat” does not match its current position in the tournament table and could get out of the crisis if the right actions are taken.
Arshavin also expects that after Cherchesov's arrival, “Akhmat” will have a balanced game. In his opinion, the team did not play poorly during the previous head coach Sidorjuk's era, but luck was not on their side.
Arshavin pointed out that there is no need for Cherchesov to make major changes, as he is capable of lifting the team out of the lower ranks. According to him, the team will not be fighting for the last places in the tournament table.
For information, “Akhmat” started the current season unsuccessfully. The club lost four consecutive matches, three of which were in the Russian Premier League.
Currently, “Akhmat” is in 13th place in the tournament table. In the fourth round, the team led by Cherchesov will host “Zenit” at home.
